Engineering Schools & Programs in Pittsburgh
Allowing for students to customize their curriculum and allowing for engineering studies within the first semester are among the draws of Carnegie Mellon University, one of the nation’s most prestigious engineering schools. Nine engineering disciplines are offered, with each department offering opportunities to conduct research with faculty members. Already home to more than 11,000 engineering jobs, the Pittsburgh area is expected to have 3.8 percent job growth in the field of engineering jobs by 2010, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry The ‘hot’ Pittsburgh engineering job growth is projected to be for computer software engineers, with a 41.1 percent increase; environmental engineers with 27.6 percent growth; and biomedical engineers jobs up 23.1 percent. However, the fields of chemical and nuclear engineering are each expected to experience double-digit job reductions by 2010.
